DETAIL/ARTIST’S PERSPECTIVE:

This piece reflects a combination of symbolism, a primordial swamp if you will. A Garden of Eden of sorts. My intention was to create a warmth likened to that of a womb. I included alligators and dragonflies for their prehistoric context, and cranes and a Rosy Spoonbill for being evolved dinosaurs.

Combining  Pagan and Christian references, I  chose to bring forth faces in the trees, representing them as entities and included my interpretation of Lilith, like a fairy sitting with the spider, which is also associated with the Hopi symbol for our origin. The cranes also symbolize the Asian culture’s reference for “guardians.” Dragonflies and frogs symbolize “rebirth,” and of course the serpent …well, we all know that one.
